From the Kleinwalsertal village Riezlern, the Kanzelwand gondola takes you to boundless mountain adventures. 36 km of slopes are waiting for winter sportsmen and -women. But of course, in summer, hikers also find the perfect terrain in the family friendly hiking area.
That´s what makes the Austrian part of the area popular with its guests:
- the ´Burmiwasser´ water adventure themed hike is a special highlight among the youngest. Several waterplay stops line the way between the top station of the gondola and the ´Riezler Alpsee´ lake . The magical attraction water has on children is a well-known phenomenon and so their eyes begin to sparkle once they find out what this themed hike is all about.
- In winter, the CrystalGround terrain park at the Kanzelwand gondola´s valley station has a lot to offer to freeskiers and snowboards alike. And floodlight makes it possible - at least on Wednesdays - to extend their stay into the evening hours.
- For experienced alpinists and climbers, the two-country via ferrata ´Zweiländer Klettersteig´ offers a challenging experience.
Enjoying a meal at the gondola´s top station
The day starts with your uphill ride in the gondola. Afterwards you either excert yourself or just have a relaxing walk in nature. And then? The well-deserved rest should be an inherent part of your trip to the two-country-area. Perfect for that is for example the ´Panoramarestaurant´ or the ´Hammerspitz´ bar at the top station of the Kanzelwand gondola. Sun terrace, fine foods of the region and a perfect view over the Kleinwalsertal...could it get any better than that?
How about some history?
If you´d like to dig deep into the history of the area you should hike back down to the valley. Shortly after your start at the gondola´s top station, you will arrive at a mountain ridge from where you can enjoy an amazing view on the surrounding mountains and into the neighbouring Fellhorn area in Germany. From there, you continue to the ´Zwerenalpe´, an alp which was first mentioned in 1574. For a long time, farmers lived up here with their families and administered the five cottages and the chapel. Today, except for some weekends in summer, it is uninhabited. After this trip to the Kleinwalsertal´s past, you can continue your hike down to Riezlern. About 2,5 hours takes the descent through idyllic landscapes with a hint of history.
